So - what did Shirley & Sharon think when they first laid eyes on this month's CLUB Scrappit?

Shirley - I loved the way this pack was so perfectly co-ordinated - everything just seemed to tone in so well with one another.  I also liked the fact that there was a great mixture in the pack - pattern paper that would suit both boy & girl paper projects.

Sharon -  When the kit first arrived I was really excited by the different ranges available.  Some of the papers I knew immediately what I wanted to do with while others just evolved with a bit of play!!

So - now that you've heard their thoughts on the pack . . . let's see what they created with it!

SHIRLEY's TIP:  I decided to add a little definition to the flowers on the pattern paper by simply stitching by hand around the flower centres.  To compliment the hand sewing, I then also chose to sew the acrylic heart into position as well.

The red flowers which adorn the photo are from the rubon package.  I chose to apply them to a piece of scrap paper, before cutting them out and applying them to my page.  The one on the bottom right and the one top left on the photo are actually 'pop' mounted with some foam tape, to give them a little visual dimension.

SHARON's THOUGHTS:  One of my favourite techniques is hand cutting and the latest is to hand cut into photos to create a silhouette effect.  The above page and the two below feature this technique to highlight different elements on my page to reflect their importance to the story I wanted to tell.

SHIRLEY's TIP:  This paper in particular was wonderful to work with - the gorgeous colours and the design on the actual paper, really didn't need much being added to it, to achieve a wonderful result.

I decided to add a red rubon along the spine edge of the notebook cover and complimented this red toning with a scattering of the red stemmed blossom rubons and a little bling to highlight here and there as well.

I applied a similar technique to the simple birthday card featured below too - the red rubon flowers were firstly applied to white cardstock, cut out and then adhered to the card (3 of which were 'pop' mounted on foam tape)

SHARON's TIPWhen I first saw the green paper with its curls and whirls I really wanted to play with the whole shape thing!!  I decided to cut the paper into squares and rectangle tabs to attach to the page as a very different border.  To finish off I then cut out pieces of the ribbon print from the striped paper and attached them with an imperfectly sewn border.

SHIRLEY's TIP:  Try taking a macro photograph of something that relates to the story you want to tell and enlarge it to really make your statement.  As you can see on this page - the photos really DO say it all - the journaling just tells the story in a little more detail!

With a leftover strip of the green pattern paper and some of the blue cardstock I had used for the journaling strips, I created this card.  The rubons were added down the side for a little visual interest and I chose to once again hand sew the Petal Pieces into place!

SHARON's TIPTo compliment the photo’s in the above and below scrapbooking pages, I chose to use simple embellishing, relying of the patterned papers to do all the work.  One big tip I found was to cut the title out of the same coloured card as the photo mat and then adhere so it’s touching the mat.  This gives you the look of a much larger mat and therefore the illusion of a larger photograph.

SHIRLEY's TIP:  I've been wanting to try my hand at making a board book for quite some time and after picking up myself a plain one recently I thought I'd get creative with the gorgeous blue tonings of this pattern paper - I'm a bit partial to blue - *grin*

SHARON'S STEP-BY-STEP:  I admit that my latest craze is without doubt a container of plaster filler!!  I love the versatility and the effect that it creates!!

To create this page –

  1. Cut a 10 by 10 inch square from the blue floral patterned paper and adhere to the centre of a yellow sheet of card.
  2. I used a scrap of an old clothing pattern,  cut into a very rough squarish shape.  I then scrunched and modge podged it to the centre of the patterned paper.
  3. Once dry I used my fingers to rub the plaster filler along the edges of the blue patterned paper, keeping it patchy in area’s for effect.
  4. Leave to dry, while waiting roughly dry brush white gesso onto some of the letters for an aged look.
  5. To finish off I attached my photo to the centre of the page, stapled on my title and added a few extra embellishments!!

SHIRLEY's TIP:  If you take a good look at the rubons, you might find you can actually combine a set together to make one unique feature.

Take for example this card, the floral centrepiece has been created by three identical rubons that I've cut apart and then joined into one unique floral feature!

SHARON's TIP:  Last month my husband celebrated his 40th birthday with a big party. Before the celebrations really took off I managed to get quite a few photos of the celebration and found it really difficult to chose a few photos to make a page for my husband.  To enable me to use all my favourites I decided to make a mini book using the blue card and patterned papers from the kit!!

SHIRLEY's TIP:  Just a quick little project to use up a strip of pattern paper - my local scrapbooking group has a 'Gift Kitty' that we all contribute to each fortnight and the monies accumulate and enable us to purchase birthday gifts, flowers or any such other gifts that may be required throughout the course of the year.

I simply applied a strip of the striped pattern paper to the jar with double sided tape and applied a piece of white cardstock over the top.  Make sure you apply each layer to the jar separately, don't try to create it all on a flad surface and then apply it to the jar, otherwise you will find that the top layers won't wrap smoothly (says she who is speaking from experience)  I then added some stickers to complete the look - gold trim, flowers and some letters.  Like I said, very simple BUT I think it looks better than a plain jar!

SHARON's TIP:  Don't forget to get creative with all those scraps . . . just look at all these cards I made with some of the pattern paper & cardstock leftover from my other projects!
